Metis — releases
The installers for Metis, a local AI assistant that runs on your own computers. Metis is open source
(AGPL-3.0-or-later); this repository holds only the installers. Every release is listed under
Releases, each file with its SHA-256
(metis-0.1.17-SHA256SUMS, checked with sha256sum -c).
Download 0.1.17
- Windows 10/11, 64-bit: metis-0.1.17-setup.exe
- Mac (Apple silicon): metis-0.1.17.dmg
- Linux (Debian, Ubuntu), 64-bit: metis_0.1.17_amd64.deb
The installers are not signed yet. On Windows, press More info, then Run anyway. On a Mac, drag Metis to Applications, then right-click it and choose Open, and Open again in the dialog.
Already installed? Metis checks for a new version once a day and when it opens, and offers it in a pop-up: press Update now and it updates itself and restarts. From 0.1.17 on, updates come from git.metis.wtf.
Install
- Windows: run the installer (it asks for administrator approval: Metis registers a background service), choose
a folder, and let it download Python 3.14 and Metis's packages (a few minutes). Open Metis from the Start Menu.
If a step fails, the installer names it and points at the Setup Log (
%TEMP%\Setup Log <date>.txt). - Mac: open the .dmg, drag Metis onto Applications, eject the image, then right-click Metis > Open. The first open downloads Python 3.14 and Metis's packages. To remove it, run Uninstall Metis from the image.
- Linux:
sudo apt install ./metis_0.1.17_amd64.deb. Metis runs as a background service under its ownmetisuser (systemctl status metis). Remove it withsudo apt remove metis.
The first launch measures the computer, finds or installs a model server, picks a model that fits, and asks a handful of questions.
Send a report
When something goes wrong, open Report a problem in Metis. It shows what it is about to send and sends it to the author, never your keys or passwords; when it cannot be sent, the report is saved to your Desktop.
