    Metis 0.1.7 Stable

    Added

    • Metis can ask you a question from inside a chat: the question shows as a card you answer in place, and the answer reaches the run that is waiting on it.
    • Home has a search over your chats.
    • Metis uses its memory in a turn: a fact you told it before is recalled into a message that asks about it.
    • What a long turn clears from its context is saved first and can be read back.
    • Pin on the Memory page: a fact you pin is offered to every turn, at most four at once, and can be unpinned.
    • Forget on the Memory page: Metis stops using a fact and every earlier value of it.
    • Metis reads a workspace's AGENTS.md.
    • A Notes page: notes with a checklist, a reminder, pinning and an archive, kept in one file.
    • Settings has a page of its own.
    • Capabilities has its own row in the navigation rail; on the phone it comes first under More.
    • The navigation rail groups its rows in tiers.
    • Moving between pages crossfades.
    • Chats from other assistants can be imported into Metis.
    • The Pair page is now the Devices page. It shows each device's kind, and a phone that opens Devices gets a plain page.
    • After pairing, a phone lands on a Paired screen that says where it opens Metis and asks once to add Metis to the home screen.
    • The tray tells you when a turn ends or an approval is waiting while the window is hidden or in the background.
    • A slow model download says whether the network or the disk is the slower side, and a download that would leave the drive under a tenth free asks first.
    • A Plan page shows a run's plan and what each step did.
    • Capabilities has a Tools tab: Metis's own tools with the leash tier of each, and the tool servers it is given.
    • A new chat's greeting uses your name.
    • A chat exported as shared leaves out each turn's device id; a private export keeps it.
    • Each webhook post carries a signed timestamp together with its body.

    Fixed

    • A chat answer no longer comes back shaped like a report.
    • A pinned memory that cannot be used no longer shows the turn as having remembered nothing.
    • Memory no longer recalls everything it holds for a message that asks about nothing you told it ("what is the weather").
    • The Model screen's offers name the card Metis leaves out. The setup page no longer says "no card on file" on a machine whose only measured card is one Metis leaves out, nor "fewer than two cards measured" where two were.
    • No figure on the setup page reads "0.000 GiB" where it is not zero.
    • Every card the server step names is numbered as the Machine screen numbers it.
    • A mixture model is no longer called "a dense model" on the setup page.
    • When the cheaper cache setting places nothing, the Model screen says which card falls short.
    • The setup page speaks in plain sentences throughout: the server step, the model offers' numbers and the Machine step carry no dash.
    • A model pulled onto Metis's own stopped llama-swap no longer drops the models it served before, and its row is no longer refused.
    • Every metis setup action refuses a flag it does not read, and names it.
    • The machine scan no longer treats this computer as a second computer when a model row, a typed address or its own announcement names it by its network address.
    • A bug report no longer carries secrets: the shell's token, a secret in its copy of the Logs page, or the start of a secret cut off at a log's end. It no longer hides what it cut from a page, no longer marks a push service's public address as a secret, and two files in it never share one name.
    • Unpairing a device on Windows no longer fails when a phone reads the device list at the same moment.
    • A web page fetched for research can no longer send Metis to this computer's own addresses, however the page names them.
    • A chat's standing topics are sent only to the model server they belong to.
    • The Updates page is drawn like its mockup, and the Logs and Address pages match the other converted pages.

    Fixed

    • Installing over a previous Metis: after stopping its service, Setup now also ends any program still running from the old folder (the tray icon, for one) before cleaning it, so the install no longer stops at a folder in use.
    • The Metis name at the top left of every page is a link home — on the report page on a phone too, which had no other way back.
    • Pinning Metis to the taskbar keeps its icon, and the pin opens Metis: the app and its shortcuts now share one application id.
    • Text in Metis's window can be selected and copied.
    • On a machine with two or more graphics cards, the model server is told which card is which in Metis's order, and a model split across cards of unequal memory is served in proportion; metis setup server --split asks for the split outright.
    • The chat page's live updates wake on the run's own events instead of polling the record every 50 ms.
    • A request that failed shows as failed in the context card, in its own words, instead of as a request that used nothing.
    • The scan for model servers also reads this install's own endpoint rows, so a server set up by hand is found.

    Fixed

    • The window's three buttons: minimise, maximise and restore now animate like every window's; the bar drags with Windows' own snap, a maximised window drags down to restore, a double-click on the bar maximises, and a button's icon eases in when you point at it.
    • Installing over a previous Metis whose service was still running no longer fails while installing Python: Setup stops first, names the folder still in use, and says to restart Windows and run it again.
    • A link in the update window to another site opens in your browser; Update now and Remind me later act only while that window shows Metis's own page.

    Added

    • Setup lists the model servers already running on your machine, with the models each one holds. Pick one and a model, and setup goes on without downloading anything; or continue to the offers as before.
    • Setup shows a small console box that always follows the newest line of what Metis is running, and can be scrolled back.
    • The Updates page has Check now and Update now buttons.

    Fixed

    • A message now always gets a reply: a model that kept asking for tools no longer ends the turn with nothing said.
    • The chat no longer reloads when you send: the reply appears in place, and the rounds and tool calls fold into one quiet line under it.
    • Moving around the app no longer reloads the whole window, and setup moves from screen to screen without jumping.
    • The chat's context ring fills in on its own, or says in words when the model server reports nothing.
    • The model can be changed on any turn of a chat, not just the first, and its picker is drawn like the rest of the app.
    • During setup the side menu stays hidden until setup is done; the steps are the only way around.
    • The window's three buttons are bigger coloured circles, each showing its icon only when you point at it; minimise now goes to the taskbar.
    • Links you click open in your browser instead of doing nothing.
    • Setup's loading circle and progress bar keep going instead of starting over every second.
    • Downloading a model while Metis's own model server is already running adds it beside what that server holds, instead of sending setup round in a loop.
    • A plain message in the chat gets the model's own reply, not a report about it.
    • The message box stays at the foot of the window after the first message, instead of jumping up under it.
    • The update pop-up opens in front of the window, not behind it.

    Metis 0.1.2 (Windows) Pre-release

stik released this 2026-09-23 02:23:01 +00:00 | 14 commits to main since this release

Metis 0.1.2 for Windows (built 2026-09-23 from the gated commit e93ddfb).

Fixes the fresh-box install (a machine with no model server yet): the model server's service died at its first start -- its registered line named the wrong site-packages -- and the setup's model step looped on the pull. The report script (metis-collect.ps1) now also captures the service's state and Windows' own event log.

Upgrading from an earlier version: uninstall it first (Settings > Apps > Metis > Uninstall), then run this installer.

    SHA-256 of metis-0.1.2-setup.exe:

Administrator approval and an internet connection are needed at install (Python 3.14 and the packages are downloaded). See the README for the steps.

Metis 0.1.1 for Windows (built 2026-09-22 from the gated commit c471894).

Fixes from the first install's first launch: the window now opens on the setup instead of the design page, and no console window sits beside the tray.

Upgrading from 0.1.0: uninstall it first (Settings > Apps > Metis > Uninstall), then run this installer.
